This dress I named Dolley, for Dolley Madison. When the British marched on Washington in August 1814, she stayed at the President's House until the last hour, making sure the full-length portrait of George Washington was saved before she fled. Her warmth and grace held a young capital together, and I wanted a dress that carries that same steady elegance.

Deep forest green, naturally dyed and rich as a pine wood in late fall. The smocked bodice gathers and holds with a gentle stretch beneath a clean square neckline. Long balloon sleeves fall full and finish in ties at the cuff. The pleated, tiered skirt moves beautifully with every step. Two deep pockets. A solid I designed to be worn again and again, dressed up for the holidays or down for a walk to the barn.

Fabric: Every Dolley is naturally dyed in Jaipur using a craft far older than fast fashion — cotton dipped by hand in natural dye, batch by batch, until the color settles deep into the fiber. Designed on our homestead in rural Ohio, made in Jaipur by families who have practiced this tradition for generations. Because each dress is dyed by hand, no two are identical — slight variations in shade are not flaws, they are fingerprints. The mark of something real. No chlorinated bleaches, azo dyes, chemical washes, sprays, or preservatives are used to make or applied to our Clarity dresses. We are toxin free by design.

Care: Wash inside out with other 100% cotton fabrics on a delicate cold cycle. Hang dry. Never bleach.
