Calendula:
  1. Anti-inflammatory Properties:
    • Calendula is renowned for its anti-inflammatory effects. The compounds like flavonoids and saponins in calendula can reduce inflammation, which is a key factor in mastitis pain. By calming inflamed tissues, calendula can help reduce swelling, redness, and discomfort in the breast.
  2. Antimicrobial Action:
    • Mastitis often involves a bacterial infection, commonly Staphylococcus aureus. Calendula has antimicrobial properties that might help combat these infections, potentially preventing the spread or worsening of the infection, thus aiding in pain relief by addressing the root cause.
  3. Wound Healing and Tissue Repair:
    • Calendula promotes wound healing, which can be beneficial if there are cracks or sores on the nipple or areola due to breastfeeding. Healing these can reduce pain and the risk of further infection.
  4. Detox:
    • Calendula is known for aiding in tissue repair and detoxification. In the context of lymphatic health, this could mean helping to clean up cellular debris, which might contribute to reducing congestion or swelling in lymphatic structures.

Red Clover:
  1. Phytoestrogens:
    • Red clover contains isoflavones, which are phytoestrogens. These compounds can mimic some effects of estrogen, potentially balancing hormonal fluctuations that might contribute to inflammation or discomfort in the breast tissue.
  2. Anti-inflammatory Effects:
    • Like calendula, red clover has anti-inflammatory properties due to its content of flavonoids and other phytochemicals. This can help in reducing the painful swelling and inflammation in the breast.
  3. Antimicrobial Activity:
    • Although less pronounced than calendula, red clover does possess some antimicrobial properties which could help in managing or preventing bacterial infections associated with mastitis.
  4. Blood Circulation:
    • Red clover is believed to improve blood circulation due to its mild anticoagulant effects. Better circulation can aid in reducing inflammation by ensuring that inflammatory mediators are cleared more efficiently from the affected area.

About the brand: Evergreen Apothecary started in my brain, as most ideas do. I had recently suffered a brain injury and had lost my sense of smell. During all of my therapies I learned that odor brings on strong memories, even better than photographs from the past. The part of the brain that process memories also processes scents. I felt the pain that having no scent brought. Here at Evergreen Apothecary our motto is "A scent for every memory" and we believe in it. Whether it is cypress from a walk in the woods or cotton candy from taking your kids to the fair, we want to bring joy every time you use our soap.
