My favorite words from Dorothy Wordsworth are, "I never saw daffodils so beautiful… they tossed and reeled and danced, and seemed as if they verily laughed with the wind." So I have named this dress after her — and yes, a little for the polka dots too. She walked the fells of the Lake District in every kind of weather and wrote down everything she saw — the moss on the stones, the moon behind the clouds, a belt of wild daffodils along the water — in journals so tender that her brother William borrowed her flowers for the most famous poem in the English language. She never asked for the credit, and for two centuries she was remembered only as a devoted sister. Today she is read as one of the finest nature writers of her age — a woman who found the whole of creation in a single spring afternoon by the lake.

Forest green scattered with white — the palette of a shaded wood in June, of ferns and lake water and light coming down through the leaves. The neckline gathers soft and wide on an adjustable drawstring that ties at the center front — cinch it close or let it rest just off the shoulder, exactly how you like. The short puff sleeves catch the air. The skirt falls in gathered tiers, long to the ankle, made for walking somewhere green. The bodice is left unlined to stay light and cool against the skin, while a cotton voile lining runs the length of the skirt for comfort and modesty.

Fabric: Every Dottie is hand-block printed in Jaipur using a craft 500 years older than fast fashion — wooden blocks carved by hand, dipped in natural dye, and pressed into the fabric one stamp at a time. Designed on our homestead in rural Ohio, made in Jaipur by families who have practiced this tradition for generations. Because each dress is made entirely by hand, no two are identical — slight variations in color and pattern are not flaws, they are fingerprints. The mark of something real. No chlorinated bleaches, azo dyes, chemical washes, sprays, or preservatives are used to make or applied to our Clarity dresses. We are toxin free by design.

Care: Wash inside out with other 100% cotton fabrics on a delicate cold cycle. Hang dry. Never bleach.
